Happy New ½-Year!

June 30, 2024

Dear Family and Friends,

We prepared this card for the New Year, but life had other plans… So, here we are in June, sending you a Happy New ½-Year Card! While belated, it comes with the same heartfelt greetings to you and yours.

Recent news in our clan:

Chaney
Chaney, living in San Francisco since 2020, took an exciting “gap year” from her private equity job at Genstar to work at a portfolio company in online education, gaining valuable experience from the management perspective. After hiking Spain’s coast this summer, she’ll return to Genstar in her investment role this fall. Outside work, Chaney enjoys riding her leased event horse Abe in Petaluma and avidly adventuring with her boyfriend, Jon.

Jessica and Jeff
Now Charlottesville homeowners, Jessica transitioned to a local startup in clinical trial recruitment, where she’s thriving in the entrepreneurial setting. Jeff enjoys his role at UVA’s mental health services, counseling faculty and staff. Their passion outside of work is being devoted “parents” to their mini-Aussies, Sadie and Toby. When not exploring their family-friendly neighborhood, you’ll find them cheering on UVA sports teams from the stands.

Angel and Bill
Angel’s father John passed away peacefully in January, after a good 93 years. He had what he termed a “lucky life” and we would say was a consequential life, leaving his mark on so many.  Paula is adjusting to life without her love of 70+ years, and will be joining us for a family celebration on Windswept this summer.  Bill’s mom Nancy continues to be a tireless caregiver to Andy and is still collecting prize money on the golf course  with her gaggle of gal friends, all 20+ years her junior. And Bill’s dad Jim has had a renaissance of sorts after a new pacemaker, doing circuits at the fitness center and purchasing a cherry red hybrid so that he can get about Williamsburg.

Bill is buzzing with enthusiasm about AI integration at Unbound Medicine, opening up exhilarating possibilities in medical education. Angel is savoring her sabbatical from UVA, writing a book about Montessori outcomes and analyzing data from her national study on public Montessori schools. Outside work, we find joy in friends, outdoor activities, and spiritual exploration. Bill can often be found sculling, birding, or tending rural lands, while Angel might be in the garden or exploring trails on horseback with Party and their newly rescued horse, Shishito. A highlight of our year was a journey in Spain, where we pedaled through Majorca, marveled at Gaudi’s wonders in Barcelona, hiked the Camino near San Sebastian, and soaked in Madrid’s ancient and modern charms.

We send blessings to you and yours and hope you’ll visit or stay in touch!
